Mozilla added the option to set Perplexity as the default search engine in the Firefox browser — previously the option was tested in several countries
Mozilla is integrating the AI-powered search engine Perplexity into its Firefox browser, offering users a new way to find information. This addition places Perplexity alongside traditional options like Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Wikipedia.

Perplexity provides conversational, cited answers, allowing you to verify information without sifting through search result pages.
The update is scheduled to roll out to Firefox users worldwide, with the mobile version set to receive the feature in the coming months. The Perplexity team also noted that users can make one-off queries to the AI chatbot without setting it as their default search engine.
How to Manually Enable Perplexity
If Perplexity doesn't appear in your list of available search engines, you can add it by following a few simple steps based on Mozilla's guide:
- Navigate to the perplexity.ai website.
- Type a query into the Firefox address bar and select the “Search with Perplexity” option from the dropdown menu.
- Enter another search query in the address bar. A prompt should now appear offering to add Perplexity to your list of search engines.
- Once added, you can set Perplexity as your default search engine in the “Search” section of Firefox settings.

Perplexity's Market Position
- According to The Information, Perplexity recently raised $200 million, reaching a valuation of $20 billion.
- The company has also developed its own AI-powered browser, Comet.
- Perplexity once hypothetically offered to buy Google Chrome for $34.5 billion, should regulators ever force Google to sell the browser.
