Slack Begins Testing Slackbot Update That Turns Reminder and Notification Tool into an AI Assistant
Slack is enhancing its classic Slackbot with new AI capabilities, allowing it to provide personalized answers based on your conversations, files, and other workspace data. The updated bot is currently being tested internally by Salesforce employees.
Key Capabilities
- Personalized Assistance: Users can ask the bot questions like, What are my tasks for today? or Are there any project updates? to get instant, context-aware answers.
- Advanced Task Handling: Beyond simple queries, the AI-powered Slackbot can draft product launch plans, consolidate information from various channels, and generate social media content that aligns with your brand's tone.
- Data Privacy: Slack confirmed that while the underlying AI models haven't been disclosed, user data will not be used for training the AI.
Rollout and Previous AI Integrations
A public release date has not yet been announced, but users will have the option to opt out of the feature once it becomes available.
This initiative is part of Slack's broader push into AI, building on features introduced over the past year.
The platform previously introduced AI-powered summaries for channels and threads in February 2024 and a feature for transcribing and summarizing work calls in late 2023.
