Startup Raw has begun developing paired “smart” rings that detect emotions and arousal levels from a distance

In the media, they are called 'fidelity trackers,' but the company itself positions the product as a way to better understand one's partner.

  • Raw is the developer of a dating app where you can only upload photos without filters.
  • The team's next product is a pair of 'smart' rings called The Ring, which will be able to read a person's physical and emotional state and send light signals to their partner's ring, said company CEO Marina Anderson to The Verge.
  • The device will be equipped with sensors to measure heart rate and temperature, a microphone, and a gyroscope.
  • For example, if a person is nervous during a business meeting, their significant other will understand this from their ring, which will change color, and they can send them a message.
  • Thanks to the analysis of voice tone, temperature, and movement patterns, the built-in AI will be able to distinguish when a person is simply exercising from when they are experiencing arousal — then the ring will flash purple.
  • It will work in conjunction with a mobile application that will allow users to configure the metrics available to their partner. If desired, the user can disable the device at any time.
  • Some media outlets call Raw's idea a 'fidelity tracker.' However, the company believes the ring will help couples 'explore each other's feelings and strengthen trust,' especially in long-distance relationships.
  • Raw is currently working with focus groups. If the technology passes the tests, the company will present a prototype in September 2025. They plan to launch the product in early 2026.
  • 'Smart' jewelry from other companies, such as Oura Ring and Bond Touch Bracelet, can already read stress and send light signals, but they cannot distinguish arousal from regular physical exertion, writes The Verge.
